Join our campaign to protect our sea!
Different studies have shown that the contamination of the Mediterranean Sea is extremely serious and the impact of plastic waste is critical.
Since 1995 Legambiente has been coordinating organizations, schools, local communities and institutions from all over the Mediterranean basin in activities of cleaning up litter from beaches and promoting preventative measures to reduce this huge problem.
Clean Up the MED is not only an action to collect beached waste but also raise awareness and educate the community on the importance of reducing the pollution released into the sea. Marine litter monitoring is an important tool of Clean Up the MED. Legambiente requires the contribution of all the associations involved in the event to understand the levels of diffusion of plastic waste along shores. This is crucial to address common policies to reduce the impact.
Each year Clean Up the Med involves more than 1,500 locations in 21 Mediterranean countries aiming to draw attention to the pollution of the Mediterranean Sea and motivate communities to work together to change the situation. Last year Clean up the MED involved over 150 participants coordinating institutions, schools and local civil societies.
Clean Up The Med 2020 will be held on September 25, 26 and 27. Participation form
